This is Porsche Spyder 1500RS, Serial number 550-0030 being loaded for airfreight in 1955 to Caracas, Venezuela......the Porsche factory called this effort "Operation Caracas".  This "Werkes" factory team car was flown to South America for the Sportscar Grand Prix of Caracas. Huschke von Hanstein drove the car in the race and managed an 8th place finish against much more powerful competition from Ferrari and Maserati. This Spyder was sold in Caracas to a privateer but not heard of for many years.  The car resurfaced in Florida in the early 1960's at a used car lot after being traded for a pick-up truck.

The new owner raced the car during the 1960's until the engine exploded. This Spyder was then stored for many years until a new owner purchased and asked us to restore the car to original.
